Erm... If you go to Control Panel, then Network & Sharing Center, then click on View Status where it's got the "Wireless Network Connection" text (underneath that text it might say Signal Strength: Excellent or something like that).

What is the actual speed of your WLAN link? Is it 54MB?

no thats not it, its right next to the modem and signal is at max

I've just brought a new laptop with wireless on it and i am downloading a file which is 65 mb from the internet and it is downloading at average of 33kb/s.

When i download from my main machine which is hard wired to the internet it downloads at 220kb/s. Is it purely because it is downloading over wireless. TThis laptop is running vista as well, does that have any impact on the speed at what it accesses the internet at?
