the reg keys stay in the registry, all you are doing is changing the path where the programs/binaries are installed. You are really over complicating this

BTW, the Samsung NC10 comes with a 160GB hdd which is enough for most.

main thing it would be used for would be on a netbook styled computer so need a hd to put stuff on with them have small memorys.

what would i do about the programs that require registery keys?

you can install any program onto a harddrive, faster speed the better.

if your thinking of installing programs to it then running them on a different pc then you need portable versions of the program, if its just staying connected to one pc then it wont have any problems.

depending on the program it should be fine would of thought itd be mainly things that rely on registry keys to run that wouldnt work.

Leave iTunes installed on the computer, and shift all the files on to an external drive. There wouldn't be any benefit from moving iTunes itself.

Any. If you installing the program to the external drive, the quicker the better
