Yesy, the have regions.

UK is region B.
US is region A.

You can get some region free discs that'll play any player, but only certain movies are region free. I Am Legend and Cloverfield are two off the top of my head. Oh and Kidulthood.

First link in google says 70% of released disks have been region free so far.

i dont think they have regions

i cant see anywhere on my blu rays the region symbol

They'll still be regional, they do that so they can have different prices in different places and because some regions have different or censored content.

Need a proper g33k to answer the other part of your question. :)

got myself a regular blu ray player..
will it play any region ? are there even region codes for blu ray ?

only reason i ask is that the PS3 will play disks from America etc...
