One thing I should point out..

Apple have changed the port on the new touchs.

If hes got an existing speaker dock or youre going to buy him one..

Its probably not going to charge it whilst its plugged in.

Although you can just charge it with the usb cable provided.

I just got a 32gb touch last week and would recommend this to anyone who is wanting an IPOD.

Altough smaller in memory than the classic it still holds plenty. I have four films and over 50 albums on there and still have around 19gb memory left.

Not to add all the daft little apps and games i have added. The internet is good and it's free if you have wifi.

Good thing as well it has a built in speaker so you need not use the headphones with it either which is really good

Total cost was £262 from Amazon which was £20 cheaper than anywhere else.

touch v2 has loud speaker
you pay a lot for extra gadgets on it i.e wifi but sacrifice memory, how much data will he want to go on it?

Touch doesn't have a loudspeaker - not my gen1 one anyway

Touch is touchscreen, wifi (so Internet and emails etc) games, videos / films / tv programs, some cool free apps, oh and it plays music!
The safari Internet browser is very good - intact I made this post on it from my bed!

Im not sure myself, touch looks great for films and its got loudspeaker too. Only downside is the classic has lots more memory but years ago when I had my 20gb one I dont think I used a quater of it had had tonnes of albums.
