Ive just stumbled accross this caddy which also has built in ethernet support. May well be quite handy for someone!

my recommendation would be to buy a bigger one now deano, instead of upgrading in the future. as i found, you'll always fill it.

haha, so when you say it's interchangable.. it's not designed to be it jsut can be done?

i said they are interchangable, i didn't say it was easy  it can take alittle fucking about, but when you've done it once you'll be able to do it again without much of a problem. i also had to use an adapter for the power. so it might not be completely straight forward.

quote: Good to know - and I don't think I'll need 500GB so can save some money - if they are interchangeable, then I can easily upgrade if I need to in the future.

i have a 500GB western digital one, works a treat. depending on how much you want to pay you can either just have USB, USB and firewire or USB, firewire and eSATA.

quote: Yea.. essentially, if you buy an external drive what you are buying is an internal drive, and a caddy togethor, the only difference is the caddy cant be opened to change the drive, and is more expensive this way.

why not just install a normall HDd to your pic? can get 500gb for about £55/65

ah right, nah, i dont really have any i can reccomend. A slightly cheaper way to do things is to get a decent internal Hard-drive (they are cheaper) and buy a caddy for it (about £15 on e-bay) :D

120GB is pointless, you can get a 400gb drive for not much more money :P I got a harddrive enclosure which means you can choose whatever hard drive you want to go inside it, i got two 500GB drives out here in Spain with me. Bonus is if anything goes wrong or you want to upgrade, standard drives are cheaper to replace. The caddies can run on either USB2 or eSATA, transfer speeds are pretty good (I get around 14MB/s)
