yep, but what might happen, when windows installation restarts pc, he might start all over again (if he doesn't chage the boot sequence again)

:| I never knew you could do it that way, but if he does it my way, then he won't need to do that if he messes it up again (y)

buy a Windows XP home Edition edition CD from ebay; doesn't need to have the CoA since yours is underneath the laptop.

You don't need to change settings in BIOS, just press F12 when booting to choose booting device :)

They are telling you, IT SHOULDN'T BE IN HERE!

And, about your query.

Turn on your laptop, when it is booting up, press DEL, then go into the bios, change the boot up options, so that it boots up from a CD, then the HDD, then a floppy drive.

insert the XP disc, then reset, and it will load up the XP install. follow it through, until you get to the bit about partitions, delete the old partition. then create a new 1, then follow the step-by-step guide.

Should work.

GEEK DAY BTW :look:

is it a branded laptop (dell etc)? if so then it should have a crappy restore disc to return it to factory settings and remove all data.
otherwise boot off the install disc then say to formatthen install windows or load a dos prompt from a floppy disc or usb drive then do format c:
