Also, if the ad-popup windows appear before you even open any programs, then as suggested, find and download Lavasoft's AdAware 6, and run a full system scan......that should remove any adware programs/files/etc from your machine.

drew, was it you who posted a while back how to stop the windows messenger popups through control panel?
can't remember how to do it

Firstly, make sure you have Administrative Tools enabled......should be an option in your Start Menu (most likely in the Programs sub-menu). If you don't, right-click on your taskbar and select Properties. Click on the Advanced tab, and find the tick-option for "Display Administrative Tools". Tick it and click on OK.

Now, go into the Start Menu, and into the Programs sub-menu. You should see an option for Administrative Tools. In there, select the option for Services. When the window appears, find the option for "Messenger". Right-click on it, and select Properties. When that window appears, change the "startup status" option to Disabled, and click on the "Stop" button.

Voila! :)
