Pinking, (high pitch explosive sounds) which can be the result of several problems with vehicle systems, is where the fuel and air mixture is ignited at the wrong time, sometimes called pre-ignition. Pinking must be rectified as soon as possible as it is detrimental to the engine, often causing damage to the pistons and other engine components if left unchecked

So if optimax is 97 and i put that in my 1.4i then surely this 100 Ron will be alright aswell? or am i wrong??

Marc

Tiger

troubled_corsa

what octane is optimax? 84 or something?

Tiger

posted on 14th Sep 03 at 12:32

Yeah but you have to advance the timing by a degree or so though to make the benefit.

Marc

posted on 14th Sep 03 at 12:31

I suppose highly tuned N/As would benefit too?

Tiger

posted on 14th Sep 03 at 12:14

Yeah - as marc says - high performance engines - turbos and imports too coz a lot of imports are tuned to run higher RON fuel.

MatthewR

posted on 14th Sep 03 at 12:14

Its too much for normal cars - unlike yours mind you - to the standard corsa though its too much - it will probably cause pinking.

Tiger

posted on 14th Sep 03 at 12:11

how much - £3 per litre?
