i said i was gonna give up after my A levels, which finished last friday. I cut down to sil cut ultra now, but still on 5 a day. At least im making an effort though, the amount of money i waste on literally killing myself if quite depressing. I could have got my body kit fitted!!! It is hard, but i actually want to give up now, so wish me luck!

Ive seen patient after patient die of lung cancer, an sometimes you just think if people actually saw these people... horrific but hard hitting.

That said I am known to smoke the odd cigar in formal company... but thats not real smoking, (and the smell of that is lovely!)

if everyone gave up smoking the country would go broke! or they would have to raise other taxes loads

i agree. I wont touch fags or anything smoking related. My gramp died from it, he give up as soon as he found out, but it took over him. My nan stopped for about a month after his death, and now shes on them again, and i cant stop her.

What pisses me off is smokers who get seriously ill then carry on smoking after being told by doctors that they must give up or die. GIVE UP for fucks sake!! Whats wrong with you people. If i had to give something like that up or die i think i know what i'd go for.

in the west of scotland heart disease is rapidly catching up with cancer as teh biggest killer.

also I would like to point out that a lot of them did not know what they were doing when they started as there was little or nothing published about the effects of smoking on the body. therefore I suggest you GTF with your inaccurate statements

Incidentally, the woman on the no smoking advert is infact an actress an doesnt have lung cancer, she's not breathing properly for someown with lung cancer... jus thought would throw that in...

Yes, but......don't you think they have paid already through the tax on them. Not only does the tax on ciggies pay for their treatment, but it probably pays for the treatment of a lot of the non-smokers aswell, imo they can carry on smoking as if they didn't they would put the tax on other stuff and i would have to pay it...

i'm giving up after holiday in 2weeks, so in 4 weeks time. id rather get drunk with the money i spend on fags.

slate58

The NHS can't charge for treatment because that would go against the values that the NHS was created around; "Quality healthcare available to all which is free at the point of delivery". I do agree that people who consistently smoke should not be allowed to put such a strain on NHS resources but duty of care ensures that I have to treat them, the same applies to drug addicts.

I know a woman who got cancer from smoking, managed to get treatment, but still smokes, shes not on an oxygen tank and aint got long to live, surely if you had cancer once you'd stop smoking

Super_si

posted on 29th Jun 03 at 18:03

I agree they get cancer then bleed the NHS dry trying to get a little more better quality of life.

its shit , its like reviving someone on death row just to kill them later.

i think they should have to contribute to the medial bills
