i remember having some odd offset alloys on my old B years ago and it instantly made it wallowy and understeer so I flogged em and went for Mille milia spyders in the correct offset and it was bang on again.

I doubt it. Mine handles fine and the rear wheels stick out far more than standard. 10'' et38 v.s 8.5'' et47

Adding 20mm to the track overall will probably make it handle like a sack of shit.

Yea depends on width - how wide are the current/new wheels

it would be the same as adding a 10mm wheel spacer ... going to ET 30 will push the wheel out.

it is all relative however and will depend on the width as the ET is taken from the centre line of the wheel

If I have Et40 alloys on my car now and fit Et30 will it look ridiculous?

I can imagine going the other way I could fit spacers but not sure what 40 to 30 would look like as I haven't had much experience with wheels
