The c20let is lighter than the b204L engine but different tuning capabilities completly,as for blowing up a worn engine will let go regardless of make!
The saab engine does seem the better choice depending on what car it is going in to,and it`s a 9000 engine that is taller than a 900(both b204 turbo range).

ive been searching for tuning options on my z22se, same base as the saab b207r and chevrolet lsj, came across the b204r and over seas they are getting 700bhp+ from it. dont think thats standard internals. all these engines are very well balanced as standard, more so than c20let and z20let. the b207r is the newer version of the b204r and is slightly smaller which allows transplants more easily and can be tuned to 1000bhp+ if you have deep enough pockets! the b207r comes in 2 main bhp as standard, 175bhp and 225bhp. the smaller is the same as the z20net found in astras and vectras. also the latest vauxhall 2l tubro is this base engine at 260bhp standard.

I'd just buy the saab that comes with the engine in it. Would have a 93 Aero over an old astra any day.

b204L from a 900 is shorter than one from a 9000,b204L will go straight in to a astra mk3 astra(done it already),b204L they say will tune better than the b234 because of conrod angle and there is a saab 900 running about 600 bhp on standard internals but slight head work done ,different cams, double v/s and ecu.
You can get 250 bhp on b204L with standard t25 turbo and t5 suite remap easy,if you go with a td04 turbo prob about 300 bhp.
The saab engines use the under piston oil squirters as standard and use balance shafts so really good and strong units.

That sounds extramly good it all seems cheap for a good engine ext i may look into this for pros and cons some were there has to be a big hick up

This was talked about on Mig. Even though it gets thrown about alot that the B204 can take 500bhp on standard internals, no1 knows of it ever being done. Its all just hearsay.

If i was doing a conversion on a Mk3 etc, i would go down the Saab route. About £300 would get you an engine and you can tune it to around 260bhp from your own laptop.

Personaly if i went down the turbo route i think id still go the old way C20LET rather than the B234L or what ever it is.

Atleast its goot to know they are out there to use

PPC Magazine have fitted one in a mk2 Escort with a bigger turbo and on a totally standard engine are expecting 400bhp.

Robin

B234R is 225bhp

Liam-Wilko

Robin

I'm not sure about the 204 but I know the 234 (2.3 version of the same engine) has forged rods.

Bump

Liam-Wilko

Just what seems to be going around that they are forged as standard and cam hold easy 500bhp

IvIarkgraham

posted on 6th Jan 13 at 22:54

they are a stronger engine, doubt they are forged though

Liam-Wilko

posted on 6th Jan 13 at 22:51

They seem be cropping up more and more and in what way are they better I understand they are forged as standard or somthing like that

IvIarkgraham

saab is better, very similar engines but the saab is taller so it makes fitting it more difficult than the let

Liam-Wilko

What the difference between the C20LET and the saab turbo engines I think its the b204l as iv seen a few of these pop up in vauxhall's and wanted to know the pros and cons or what engine is better the let or the saab engine.
