Makes sense to detune it from the factory, particularly as they were running F15 boxes in those days, wouldn't have been good press to have a load of them fail.

if only they thought the same about the m32

the corsa C pre-facelift was still 1.8 range topper iam sure

I would love to get a c16xe corsa GSi. Once I have sold my vxr I will get a good one.

Imagine If vauxhall never done this and the GSi had 140bhp, the Corsa C after it would have to have had a better engine than the 1.8 sri had.

i looked into this a little while ago as well and from what i found out that it was as already said ecu cams inlet ext isnt there a lad on hear funning stuppid stuppid bhp out of a C16 like 200+ or something but cost him a fortune and eats pistonrings for fun it was in one of my posts a few months ago

149bhp they were making, i emailed lotus few years ago and heard nothing back. ecu and an inlet like the mantzels is probably only things they changed as the standard cams work well to just above 7k iirc,

but as said, if there 1.6 was making same power as the 2.0 then it would make the redtop look pathetic, even though it would of made the corsa gsi alot more of a hot hatch with likes of the 106gti, williams clios etc at the time.

was thinking about this the otherday. would i get much (if any) gains if i shaved the edges off the inside of the inlet. kind of like a trumpet shape. curved if you get me? obv take the lower inlet off and clean that out well aswell

If done properly and all the way through like Lee Mannings yes

Sure ive read something about thia that robin has posted before. Something to do with a 1.6 making the same power as the almighty XE

Normal road tyres as well

Lee Mannings car is what you just described

Quite simple spec but worked so well

C16XE
Mantzel inlet with ports matched on inlet and head
Cams of some description (nothing too crazy)
4-2-1
Raised limiter

0-60 - 6.39
133mph

Was only lightly stripped as well, car was an absolute weapon and very well thought out

Doubt it was all because of insurance purposes, The 2.0 XE's were 150ish BHP, Would have made it look silly buying one of those if you were just looking for speed and power, rather than bothered about the bigger cars.

I'd like to see a 1600 with a custom inlet, cams, stand alone and a decent exhaust system, wonder what kinda power it would make.

I think they also rather kindly put undersized pistons in some of them

i think vauxhall put a different ECU with this engine too to de restrict it abit

Don't know. Someone from here did actually email lotus about this, I don't think they ever replied though.

Jed D

little bit of info for you

http://www.fastcar.co.uk/2012/02/10-best-vauxhall-facts/7/

Lotus worked on the 1.6ltr 16V engine in the 1993 Corsa GSi and were so successful with it that it made around 140bhp in testing, prompting Vauxhall to fit a notoriously restrictive inlet to get it down to 109bhp for insurance purposes.
