Originally posted by barter 2.0 8v cant be compared to a xe in my opinion, and ive had both. on a graph or what ever your talking about the 8v mite look impressive but i agree with sean,a xe will pull from start to finish on the 8v.and that point cant be argued.the xe its a more powerfull easy tuning engine, parts are by far from expensive, easy to get hold of and it dosnt matter were u live in the country you can get your hands on any part of a xe. i dont understand how people can say a xe conversion is expensive, engine is cheap, parts are fair.ok you get litle niggles with them but you do with any engine conversion/moddified cars, thats what there all about. [Edited on 04-08-2010 by barter]
Old skoolers like me, when the conversion parts alone cost £700, plus at least £300-£400 for an engine and 8v's were generally very available. I think times have changed, as you don't see so many Cav's and Astra GTE's on the roads these days. Im sure an engine conversion won't cost you £1k from home build either  I still don't think an XE is far far superiour to the 8v. Its only 20bhp, and on the road 20bhp is nothing. And from what I can see, Seans looks like a rebuilt XE. I've had an XE in my corsa, but driven so many 8v's i've lost count. Im not denying the XE is faster, but on the road, the 8v is just as good, and hasn't got as many problems. as the XE's generally do.
agree with all of that........but the part of 20bhp. side by side, stig vs another stig so cant be made out the other driver is shit.the xe will make a big gap.even at pod.proven! got slips for both. price wise you get what you pay for. big money 'most of the time' better car. i much preferd both of my xe's to the 8v in every little way, even looks.but agree with the problem side, its not masive repairs and there basic engines. own opinion but my mk4 astra gets no love because all it does is start up and drive's,never goes wrong... the xe's and now the rs im tinkering about with every now and then, makes me enjoy it more.
