I think it must be how some people drive

Pel never had any problems with my old brake setup at all. Worked a treat, no brake dust, no probs at all. Hence why i highly reccommend them.

when you say newish, how new & how many miles?

with grooved disks you are going to go thru brake pads a lot quicker as the grooves are there to skim of the top layer of the pad

whereas standard disks just wear down

The Ferodo pads were £25. They're just direct replacement (not high performance) but they still stop u pretty well with grooved disks

I have EBC turbo groove disks and noticed a ridge on the disks after 2 months! so i figured green stuff pads were to hard. When i took them out they only had like 2 mm pad left!!!!
