it seems a shame as ive heard good things about the engine itself. im not going to let it put me off though...

my astra had the ''revised nozzle'' fitted from new but still started to rattle after 65k. All gm did in the revision was remove a copper sleave in the nozzle thus making it bigger and less likely to block, lazy swines lol

Find out about the timing chain and oil nozzle asap

My dads timing chain snapped at 50k on his y reg vectra

Tried to argue with vauxhall about how it should never have happened and about the nozzle. You wont get anywhere

They have one timing chain and balance shaft chain, the balance shaft chain very rarely needs changing.

Doesn't it have 2 timing chains as well?

yeah, i think i might use that info. My mate is a mechanic, so will speak to him about changing it (if its not already been done)

Just changed the chain on my astra last weekend, took about 3 hours to do and cost me roughly £120 in bits. See if you can use the timing chain issue to try and knock some more money off him, theres also a couple of guys on the z22se forums who change them.

Seriously, don't try and go down that road with Vauxhall HQ, they will fob you off, there was a field remedy for this problem but only for a certain range of chassis numbers - seems total hit and miss, mine was apparently not one of the ones at risk, which was little comfort to me when I was forking out almost the value of the car to get a new engine put in after the cam chain snapped...
They won't do anything about it now under warrenty or as a good will gesture even if it should of been done, oh and mine had a FSH aswell with some of them at Vauxhall dealers.....

Doesn't seem overly cheap anyway imo.

Don't talk to me about timing chains on 2.2's snapping...... :(

If it's aW it means it's in danger, check the history and see if the larger oil nozzle has been fitted, if not then get it checked somewhere if you buy it, if it's been done - sweety, if not then get it done asap.

Hey folks,

been a member on here for ages, but hardly ever post:rolleyes:

Anyway, I've been 'offered' a W plate Vectra 2.2 SRI for £1600, with 50 odd k miles (yes, it's quite cheap, I know).

Been reading about them and heard some horror stories about the timing chain being prone to snapping...:o

Anyone know much about them?? I'm seriously considering it (22 4yrs NCB, so insurance shouldnt be a problem either)...

cheers..
