TBH, its not really vital anyway. At least three of my cars have failed to have the engine number registered with the doovla.

I would imagine both are supposed to be the same number and it's been fucked somewhere or is too dirty/dark e.t.c.. to tell the difference between the 8 and the 0.

It's also engraved not cast, so use an engraved number as the cast number would be the part number for the block.

It's after the C20XE bit on part of the block where the gearbox case bolts onto. It might be feint.

right. turns out it is an xe block its just been heavily powdercoated.

ive got two numbers from rubbing dirt into the creases.

16053020 or 16053028

one could even be 16053828

buggeration.

im thinking of just sending off 16053020.
what happens if its the wrong number?

i heard that on earlier blocks they were on the transmission side at the back right, and then on later engines it was transferred to the actual block.

think i'm just going to send off this engine number i have as its 8 digits etc on a small metal plate, the part before has been bent upwards so you cant read it bt i reckon the code used to be there.

the engine number is next to the gearbox on xe's and does run on the diagonal bit next to the dip stick, if it isnt there, the block may have been replaced with an 8 valve block, if so the engine number is on top of the block, but with it having a 16v head you wont be able to see the number.

when you send your log book off, you dont put the C20XE bit infront, you just put the numbers that come after the C20XE.

Im sending some stuff off to the dvla and need my Engine number. Not the C20XE code part but the 8 digit number.

I've found 90409710 near the back right of the block, but i thought the engine number was by the gearbox running parralell to the dipstick? But there's nothing there at all.
Does the number sound right to you lot?

Cheers.

edit - and when i fill it in will it be C20XE90409710 ?
