Originally posted by 22B Out of those cars Ive owned 2, the saxo VTS and 206 GTi (which I still own but is soon to be going for a scooby turbo at the end of the month) VTS great car loved it to bits, was quicker than my other mates VTS had a real nice kick over 5000 rpm, and just kept pulling hard to the redline. Very unreliable though, was an X reg 2001, 27,000 miles full service history and 2 previous owners, replaced alternator, ABS sensor as soon as I got it. Soon after a while it started idling with a strange noise and would cut out and not restart, also was misfiring when being pushed, and would also cut out. Had the crank sensor replaced worked for a while then started cutting out again, and wouldnt restart .had the ECU sent of and there was nothing wrong there, no1 could figure out the problem so I part exchanged it after changing the coil pack and various other sensors. Was so sad to see it go as before it went wrong it was a great car to drive and quite quick for what it was, fuel was hit and miss would be around 30mpg which aint bad for a high revving 1600. No real mod cons, apart from leccy windows and mirrors and passenger and driver airbag. Got the 206 GTi as a replacement, with SP kit, digital air con/climate control, 6 disc changer cd player( although i replaced all the standard kit with my components and sub and HU) passenger airbag, side airbags and driver airbags. Interior is quite nice and spacious, feels a lot bigger than it is and is very comfartable on a long drive despite the offset pedals which you get used to. As for the driving experience, it aint as raw as a VTS but its a more grown up warm hatch, engine is very torquey so will cruise along very easily, but needs revving hard and keeping on the boil to get the most out of it. Performance is identical to the VTS till above 100, where that extra cc helps of the 206 had it off the clock once(which is 135 on the clock) but book speed is 130. Handling is excellent, not as direct as the VTS but loves to lift off oversteer when provoked and seems to go exactly where you want, suspension is firm over bumps but there is a bit of bodyroll but nothing to extreme. only thing is missing is a bit more power and a 6th gear for higher speed cruising. overall its a great car in my opinion, and when it was first launched was a great success, alas time has moved on and its performance is moderate these days but quick enough for most. One last thing I get around 25-30mpg mainly town and short trips, but have had as high as 40 on a long run taking it steady. hope that helps
