that rebuild one looks ok, but you'd need to make sure its not a turbo carb, as there are some slight differences.

are there any HIF38s on there?

waste of effort, it'll be rubbish to drive, too much for a standard ish road car

and you'll need a box in the bulkhead

manifold looks different. it should fit, but doesnt seem right to me :boggle:

erm, most of the manifolds are water cooled, stops the fuel evaporating

This one too off a metro......says the inlet manifolds water cooled :boggle:

yeah, keep an eye on that, its cheap enough to be worth the risk of it being second hand

yeah, look in my garage, the carb i have is an HIF44, which has a 1 1/2" butterfly, and is sold as part of a stage 1 tuning kit (which would be worth buying, as you get a decent exhaust and manifold with it, all for 130 quid)

and yeah, doesnt need a box, as its pretty much the standard setup

Im of the opinion if it needs fixed uprate it....make it better/quicker.

Just need to convince Jade now :D

Im on theminiforum now awaiting help

Cool cool i'll check these out.

If I go for a single HIFF44, nothing too complicated & not a twin I can get away without a box????

Robin

posted on 11th Sep 06 at 14:31

yeah, its simple.

although, i'm not 100% sure if i remembered everything

you might want to ask on a mini forum just to double check. (theminiforum is the busiest)

if you really want a head, buy one from;

http://www.speedgenie.co.uk/avonbar/mainFrameset.html

http://www.minispeed.co.uk/classic/index.cgi?task=showgrp&grp=Cylinder%20Heads

also, if you go for twin carbs, you'll need a box for the bulkhead, so you get clearance.

Rob my saviour :D

Could any idiot (me) do this conversion???

Whats the right bits to buy if that lots rubbish??? :)

Robin

to convert from MPi to Carbs, you ditch the ecu, solving your ecu prob.

then, you need a new inlet manifold, the easy way is to use an SU HIF44 carb from an older cooper, dont bother with Webers, its a nightmare to get them right.

then you need a carb (low pressure) fuel pump, and possibly a carb fuel tank (which has no fuel return)

you'll need a different throttle cable too :)

should be able to do it for about 150 - 200 quid with second hand parts, or about 500 if you buy everything new.

dont buy a mini sport head, they are poop.

Right Jades mini is still not fixed.....she got some muppet to look at it almost 2 months ago who said we need to replace the ECU & immobiliser receiver unit. He took these 2 parts away with him & so far has failed to locate spares. The std immobiliser is a heap of junk anyway & Ive said to just do away with it.

Additionally to the immobiliser problem (wont cut out) the cars been using oil & I 'think' the valve seams are needing replaced.

What would be required to do away with the MPi & perhaps get it running carbs instead, id need to change ECU (this would solve immobiliser probs also??), obviously the carb kit, what else is required :boggle:
