It's an unmarked police car :) that's where the confusion came, are they being cheeky or not?

Agreed and i don't have a problem with it but it appears the VOSA regulation is there to:

quote:
The purpose of the law is to ensure the drivers’ ability to see the
road is not excessively restricted by glass tint.

& according to VOSA it affects road safety...

quote:
It restricts the driver’s vision, especially in dark conditions. This
may prevent drivers from seeing other road users or pedestrians.

It also prevents other road users and pedestrians from confirming
through eye contact that they have been seen.

So why can they do it if technically it's endangering other road users?

Also CoastalCorsa it isn't at the legal limit :)

p.s. I'm not some human rights mad man in fact i hate them it just seems that this is for general safety and not something pathetic like when you're on the street and say you can't touch me i have rights... plus i'm not that bothered just curious as i saw it today.

some police vehicles in Lancashire constabulary have tinted windows in the front - these windows are tinted to the legal limit, rear windows have no limits

this is why ARV's can have limo black rear windows and some older Dog patrols have one way glass [ silver ]

(now correct me if i'm wrong)

...the VOSA state:

quote:
Road Vehicles (Construction & Use) Regulations 1986 as amended
specify the minimum levels of light that must pass through the
windscreen and front side windows. The limits are:

Motor Vehicles first used before 1 April 1985:
The windscreen and front side windows must allow at least 70% of
light to be transmitted through them.

Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985:
The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%.
The front side windows must allow at least 70% of light to be
transmitted through them.

If the glass is tinted to a point whereby it lets through less light,
then the vehicle does not meet legal requirements.

Are the police exempt from this and therefore allowed window tints to a level which breaks VOSA's regulation?

:boggle:
