I paid £330 for a new head gasket on my 1.4 16v engine in the Astra.

lots of work in removing pipe work and ancillaries just to get to the cylinder head as previously said.

Surely the garage is having a laugh?

Why?

Need's to buy a head gasket, remove all the belts from the cams etc... take the head off... change gasket, put head back on, re check all the timing of the cams / put belts back on. Bolt it all down.

That is - IF IT's OK.

If your brother has f*cked it by driving with a blown head gasket, they may need to skim the head or more.

depends on how long it takes them to get to it.

when mine went on the Turbo it took Mattb AGES to get all the engine out to get to the head gasget.
