The outer red dots were to remind me which pully was for which cam (they are painted on so that they point to the outside of the engine) so I didn't put the cams on backwards.

there should only be one mark on the pulleys

There are 4 red dots though, what are the other two supposed to line up to? If you turned it back, would the two at the top meet in the middle and the two on the outside line up with the cover? Never seen a XE belt so im just guessing?

Basically, where I have painted in some red bits there are grooves in the pullys - these need to align to the grooves in the rocker cover when the engine is at TDC.

if it runs fine then leave it

there's two marks on the rocker cover well should be at the top and if the lines on the pulleys dont line up then it's out

ok see how it goes, i suppose if it runs fine and the belt is fine i dont see there being a problem but don't take my word on that, but they should be centre anyway :)

It all ran perfectly last time I ran it, it's on the charger at the moment so I will report back when I get it started...

yeah they should be lined dead centre at the top, does it idle high?

So if it runs ok then there isn't a problem, like I said, last time I ran it it was fine... I'll get it checked by somone who knows a bit more than me before I start taking bis apart... But it does look out which is confusing :boggle:

take the belt off and u'll have to reline the marks up with the cover should be two marks on either side at the top, refitt the belt make sure it's not to slack

So would the only way to rectify the problem be to re-fit the timing belt? It's effectivly done 0 miles and only ran at idle and fast idle. Surely the belt has been fitted too loosely for this to happen?

hard to tell with the angle you've taken the pic but looks like two teeth
