Does having the amp taking power while the head unit is off have any effect to the car ?

None that you would notice!

Sounds like the Headunit.

If it is, wire the remote cable to a live that only comes on with ignition.

I have been having problems with my amp not switching on ( see previous topic) , even when I have checked the remote cable , and replaced it !

I have now wired the remote cable , to the red +12v ignition cable , and the sub starts up with the head unit ..

I am wondering if this is a safe way of doing it ?

Cheers
Gregor

if the 12v feed is straight from the battery, then the amp will be on all the time - hence the reason for a remote lead (switches the amp on when you switch on the HU).

Easiest way to see if the remote lead from your HU is fecked is to wack a multimeter across the remote lead and ground and see what you get - it should be 12V @ 500mA or so :) If you get nothing or its low then your HU is mashed, if its ok, then it will be the wiring <- as the amp works when the remote lead is connected to the power cable.

edit - just checked that its the ignition. In which case, the amp will switch on when you turn the key. It will be fine, but i would still sort out the remote lead on the HU, as the amp will be taking power even when you have your HU switched off.

Have checked the remote countless times and it isnt working that way .

Will I come across any problems by connecting the remote to the ignition live ?

i would guess that the remote ability on your head unit wasnt switched on / broken

So that will be fine as the battery will not run out ?

sub will only be on wen the ignition is on, if remote on amp is connected to the ignition live

wud be better running off remote, tho, make sure u were using remote not leccy aerial
