Check yor sound settings on the PC in the control panel. I have accidently turned on the the mute function for the PC speakers with some kind of keyboard short cut before today :)

When my sound goes I often find that msrgv (or something like that) is not responding

reboot should sort it out, directx probably has crashed sumwhere along the line

Have you check it isnt on mute, or the speakers are connected to the pc/speakers arnt off from the switch :o
