For £60 you can buy an M-Tec linkage which will sort the problem. Thought I'd say that before Joff did...

You need to extend the plastic linkage bar by 15mm, I think, by using a metal linkage from a Nova - not all have them, but you'll find one eventually. You should probably sleeve it with some steel tubing and weld it up nice and strong...

just starting my xe conversion at long last, been told getting the gear linkage to meet up and not hit the rack is a fiddle. how has anybody else got round the "problem"? thanx
