Definately worth replacing lots of parts in it then like the tappets, all the gaskets, timing belt, idlers e.t.c... So long as the engine wasn't ragged you'll have a good engine as they are pretty strong :)

Tappets only need cleaning, £8 each!! savings to be had. And water pump too:thumbs: but get the round fin type, not the bent metal one.

It depends what you mean by performance bits?
If the engine needs new pistons it's £200 more.
If you want forged pistons it's £500 more
Cams £160 for regrinds, !60 for verniners.

A basic new shells, hone and rings can be done for £300.

Mine's costing roughly £500, but I want to get the parts for less. Thats with me doing all the labour too... It's a good idea, because after you have gone and chaged the timing belt fitted the engine and then the tappets need replacing, or the head gasket goes you'll be pissed off cos it's a pain to do things in the Corsa engine bay... Also means time off the road for the car. Think of it as an investment.

How much would it cost to rebuild a 2 l xe as i am considering doin it my self as well as some preformance parts as a sorta winter/ summer/winter/summer project so that it is finished by the time i can insure it

do u think its a gd idea? and is it hard to rebuild and engine?
