You mean its a cdrw drive? They have 2 lasers so you may well be able to burn a cd but not read one.....

Id go for drivers to, i had a hp drive do that on me

Try reinstalling the drivers. Deinstall drivers unplug IDE cable. Restart PC then plug back in IDE cable and let the plug and play pick it up. Install standard windows drivers. Give it a go. Also try another few brands of media. If not then it's knackerd :D
