in a FWD car you will want the weight over the front wheels, a good suspession setup should keep it all good

i did this to my 1.4 16v and i have to say its well worth doing. Handling improved, fuel economy improved!, performance improved.

but for everyday use then the back end could be a bit 'twitchy'??

if its straight line speed your after then every little bit of wieght loss counts in a FWD car

so if its just for one night, for a piece of straight airstrip, i could just totally strip the rear end out ok?

Yeah, what Gibbs says is correct, best thing to do is put a heavier spare wheel in the rear.

lighter will make the car go faster, but u wanna really have as close to 50/50 weight distribution as possible as just having a really light rear end will effect handling and stability.
