a thermistor probe attached to the oil filter may give a good indication of the oil temp. i could do this but need a standard oil temp to compare against :?

no higher rating oil would provide protection. I use 10w60 in the GT

is your C20XE going to be tuned like AK's though. personally if it has an oil cooler then it is there for a reason. if the oil gets too hot then it is not protecting the engine as it should.


probably not, the only mods i may possibly carry out would be cams,exhaust manifold and unichip.it would be interesting though to have a temp probe in the oil somewhere to have a with and without oilcooler temp difference.

the oilcooler on that was on the cav gsi i broke wasn't very large and fairly corroded/crapped up so would provide a very small temp change across it.

higher temp oil will be thinner and need more frequent oil changing,would synthetic oil bypass the hotter oil problem?

adam i think i still have the oil filter plate that the oil cooler hoses connect to,i'll have a look tomorrow for it if you want to go down that road.

ross - good point.... but an oil cooler wont cool oil thats cold already. The diff wouldnt be that great in my opinion.

so the oil only gets cooled when it's reached a certain temp. if it is constantly going through a cooler it will take ages to warm up. GT's open at 140F

i left mine off but fitted a cool running thermostat to the coolant system. the original was leaking like a sieve though.

Anyone on here fitted one? esp to a c20xe?

Thinking of fitting one to the 'bucket'.

I have a spare oil cooler under my bed (as you do)

any ideas on fittment? I was thinking about a sandwich plate between the oil filter... the cooler takes and returns the oil here.... is there such a plate avail for c20xe fittment.... (mocal do one??? ) I know that it can be done that way on pinto engines...
