You should also take a reconditioned gearbox into account.

I've just bought a 4x4 cally with a 2.0 16v red top, alloys and a dead transfer box for £250. Sounds like we're in the same price band

thats very cheap i would buy it, cost me just shy of £500 to have mine overhauled: new oil pump, bearings, rebore and new oversize pistons. the bottom ends gonna be like new as i've changed the water pump and timing belt tensioners aswell.

If it's really cheap then buy it regardless on the basis you can then give it a complete rebuild yourself.

get a mechanic to check it out, also make sure u get gearbox, loom and ecu included otherwise it could become a lot more expensive

As above just been offered a cheap 2.016v engine from a cally trouble is i don't know if it runs or not etc. so if i buy it its a bit of a gamble. Wot checks can i do to test the condition of the engine etc. apart from turning it over by hand and takin the head off and inspecting the bores all help is appreciated |
