Looks like an insurance jobby then, not all bad though, like I say out of the work I could well have new bumper, carbon bonnet and new headlights, then just some skirts and rear and away we go with a smart as fuck civic.

Costs to paint a car if you're not paying are large. They might be fine on the phone but he'll also want it doing by a reputable bodyshop. They also might decide to go for personal injury at some point in the future. Too much of a risk to leave pending IMO.

I dont think they are going to bother with Whiplash, the woman was absolutly fine with me and so was her husband, when I spoke to her at the time she said she was fine and when I asked her husband later on the phone he said she was fine also. So I am hoping that they aint bothering with a whiplash claim.

So 50/50 I will forget about.

I am with LV does anyone know where they stand regarding this??

The car I hit was a Escort, R reg 5 door, in white so colour match spraying costs will be high even though the damage aint really that bad.

The damage to mine aint too bad either, doesnt look that bad, smashed headlight and the close surrounding panels ahve been hit but not badly.

Reasons to go through the insurance:

50/50 you'll have to fight for, might take you years. You'll have a loss of NCB against you during this time so you're paying more anyway. Plus while the claim is still unsettled you're without refund of your excess.

It won't be £600.

You hit him in the back, be prepared for a whipcash claim. Could be thousands, you don't want to stump that up or have to claim at a later date and loose your excess having already paid for his car repairs.

Many insurers do not delete complete no claims on first accident, you'll need to check with yours about this.

Ah if thats true then I will go through insurance because the bodyshop it will go into to get fixed is willing to put the price of new parts toward the price of parts that I want, i.e carbon fibre bonnet, angel eye head lights etc.

Dont mean any direspect Adi but could anyone else confirm this about 20% off of your no claims??

no that is right, the first claim only takes off a maximum of 20% of your no claims, notall of it.
If you pay it yourself if could cost a fortune if they want a courtesy car etc... which you will have to pay for. I just had an accident with £450 excess but had no choice but to claim, but they told me it shudnt make too much diference overall.

How the hell did you not loose your bonus after first claim??

I have been thinking along those lines Rob H, if it can be done for low cost then I will do it, but if its big money then fuck it I will have to go through insurance.

The thing is I dont know if I could try and get 50/50 because of the way the accident happened, there was loads of parked cars on a bend, the car infront was a bit infront of me, went round the corner and pulled over to let a lorry pass, as I came round the corner I saw the car parked, tried to stop but just didnt have enough space to do so. Shit huh, not really my fault but also not really hers.

i had an accident, some uninsure drive crashed into me and ran off, repair was £1322, so i went thru insurance still £400 excess tho, i didnt think 1 claim makes a large diff?

Your insurance will jump up quite a bit, because of the claim, and loss of NCB.

If you can afford it, dont claim, but if its gonna cost silly money to get both cars repaired then just go through insurance.

Other thing i'd say is to get the other driver, and any passengers to sign a disclaimer saying they wont claim on insurance for whiplash etc if you pay for the damage.

Rob :)

Went into the back of someone today, my fault even though I dont think I could have helped it due to conditions.

Anyhow, waiting for the other party to get back to me on repair costs.

If its cheap enough I will try and keep it all out of insurance companies so that I aint paying a fortune next year. I have a £400 excess anyway, so if I am looking £600 to fix their car then I will pay it out.

Thing is do you reckon its better to just go through insurance anyway and get both cars sorted quickly and properly, or do I pay for their work and then pay for my using new parts etc??

How much would I be looking extra next year for insurance?? I am already paying £1360 on a 1.4 16V Civic 3dr Hatch with LV, 1 years no claims.

Cheers people,
Sean.
