Saxo_Nut your pc should be more than adequete. Have you try changing the settings from DMA to PIO? This helped on mine but mine wasn't a buffer underrun problem!

4 speed is pretty good for a DVD writer, might be getting an 8 speed one next week. Was looking at the NEC ones but will probably pay the extra for a Pioneer, bout £99 for an 8 speed

I've got an NEC 1300 but it doesn't have burnproof for DVD writing  The buffer keeps running out  It's only 4* too

all of them come with 'burnproof' or the generic term write protection. theres loads of names for it, burnproof is the one invented my sanyo.

if you are looking for a dvd writer you cant go wrong with a pioneer dvd-107 (a07)
