my clutch is slipping and its hard to get it in 1st and 2nd sometimes, but is fine when the engine is off. Is this a clutch cable too?

cable may have streched?

can you put it in gear easy with the engine turned off?

My car suffers badly with the clutch cable as from this Wednesday it would have been adjusted 4 times.

Does anybody else have this problem.
The clutch pedal sits lower than the brake and when I press to change gear I really have to force the gearstick into gear. Especially in 1st and 2nd.
When I go to put it in reverse it makes a loud grinding noise. The geezer at Vauxhall says theres no point in having a new clutch cable cuz it will be a fault in the gear box? I fink he is a twat but is he right?
Has anybody else had the same problems?

I have also found that when i put my foot underneath the clutch pedal and lif it upwards, from then on the car changes gear nice n smoothly for a short period?
