if you can c ice put it in a higher gear so ur wheels r turning easily and brake softly if u have to, as if them wheels lock up ur fooked , and turn softly as possible thats if u have to turn.

wel a car will rev easily to 5k cahnging down a gear will up it 1-2k max so no it wont damage engine i thing itll give some clutch wear but that just instead of your brakes

when cars had non servo assisted brakes you were tought to drive to slow down using the gears

nope, cadence braking is a tecnique you could use, just go on and off the brakes quickly and that should give you some degree of steering/ braking.

Also use the gears to slow the car instead of the brakes.

its its black ice theirs nowt much you can do. :(
Narrow/wintergrip tyres will help but studded tyres are what you need on ice.

yeaterday i nearly went into the hedge, from black ice, well i know i SHOULDN'T of braked but it was an natural instinct to do so!! which made me slide more! so if it happens again what should i do, use my gears to slow me down or what??
