I wouldn't get the IBM, I'd go for a Maxtor. The IBM's are noisy and not very reliable.

its not 'what spec really', you can get a shitty mobo that has around a 600Mhz P3 chip in and it could support over 200gb drives! But if your mate is clued up enough he will know what to do if your computer doesnt like the drive, basically he will have to go the manufactures website of the motherboard, go to the support page and see if they have released a BIOS (embedded program which tells your computer pretty whats connected) update. If there is one, download it and flash (update) your current BIOS. Simple really

Good advice from Willay there, if ion doubt, don't touch it!! PC's are very temperamental and if you aint got a scoob, it will fuck you up!!

Yes, pretty much a straight swap. Remember you used to have to partition them on certain OS, Win'95 for example couldn't handle anything larger than about 20Gb! It's all really straight forward though.

like i said get a mate to install it or someone you know who wont fuck you about, as long as you have the space inside the computer the guy/girl shouldnt charge you more then £20 or even a pint if your mate does it.
