If i was going for a 2.0 conversion, id be more likely to go for the X20XEV. Like you say there cheaper and newer. Also because there newer, you can find one with low milage, rather than with the C20XE's, where anything under 70k, is as rare as rocking horse shit. OK you can have them reconditioned, but its not as good as having a genuinely low milage engine.

Theres also no problems with porous heads (Not a problem shared by all C20's, but a common one)

As a comparison:

Mk3 astra GSi:
X20XEV:136 BHP, 0-60 in 8.5, 129Mph
C20XE: 147Bhp, 0-60 in 7.5, 137Mph

Not really that much difference. The main decider is whether you want to tune it or not i suppose :)

Every man and his dog uses the C20XE. I would like to use the X20XEV because as O2re says, they are cheaper to buy, and they are much newer than the old redtop engine.

The engines are more or less the same anyway, it's just all the emissions and fuel saving crap that GM used with the engine that make it 14bhp slower than the XE.

My Astra is also automatic, and as the X20XEV came with both auto and manual transmissions options, it will be easier for me to use this, instead of stripping half the car for the sake of an older engine with manual gearbox.

All I need to buy is the engine, AF20 auto gearbox, and engine wiring loom. Engine will slot straight in into my Astra, no modifications necessary!

Whats wrong with that????

X20XEV can acutally be tuned to around 240bhp on throttle bodies.

Just u need to gain the 15bhp odd u loose from the redtop in the first place. Theres a couple of older users who had the ecotec lumps.

What kind of stuff can you do to the engine to get about 150bhp, without using TBs and such like?
