the 2.5's have ignition leads and a coil pack and the 2.6's have 2 rigid coil packs direct to plugs, thats an important diff when thinking bout maintenance!!

Yeah i noticed that, must be a misprint, i've read numerous places the 2.6 is around 202bhp.
202 lb/ft of torque, not bhp.

my mate had the Pre face lift Veccy GSi and it was the 2.5 with MSD on the engine cover and slam pannel

The first digit from the code relates to emission legislation.current petrol cars need to meet Euro 4

Z= Euro 4
y= Euro 3
X= Euro 2
C= Euro 1

i guess they made the new 2.6 engine more eco friendly, so total vaux may be right about the performance stats.

:boggle: strange.

Mike GSi

found it:

SRi 2.5 V6 = X25XE = 167BHP
SRi 2.6 V6 = Z26XE = 178BHP
GSi 2.5 V6 = X25XE = 192BHP
SRi 2.6 V6 = Z26XE = 178BHP

Taken From Total Vauxhall :boggle:

2.5's X25XE iirc, I'd of thought 2.6'd be X26XE

According to Total vauxhall the 2.6 is slower than the 2.5

A 2.5 gsi is around 192bhp standard, the 2.6 was about 202bhp.The 2.5 v6 sri (like mine) is 167bhp.

Not sure on engine differences, actually the only difference I know of other than 100cc, is the 2.6 come with xenons as standard.

All the GSi's had MSD stuff, they were all SRi's that went to MSD and got 3ltr cams, lowered suspension, bodykit, recaros, and some other goodies, think the 2.5s where supposed to be 192bhp not sure about the 2.6s but I've seen a 2.5 with a panel filter and cat back exhaust that got 208bhp

ALso last of the line GSi's were 2.6, my mate has one of the very last ones made.

2.6 gsi had msd goodies and was nearly 200bhp iirc

2.5 and 2.6 units in the sri's were 170bhp werent they.

dont quote me on it though
