Basically, you know how with your current car, when cornering (especially in slippery conditions) if you nail it mid bend, you'll probably find you get wheel spin from 1 wheel (the wheel with least grip), which makes you understeer outwards on the bend :|

A LSD will transfer that drive to the wheel with the most grip instead, as one wheel goes to spin up. So instead of understeering, it'll maintain grip in the bend and allow you power out of the bend easily. The effect is that it feels like it actually pulls your car inwards into the corner more, the more power you put in mid bend.

A S1 RST box has a ferguson lsd, Ricardo MTC can uprate them from the std 20nm to 40/60/80nm and possibly even 100nm, maybe the stage 2 means its uprated to 60nm?

for exmple for an escort rs turbo we do the following:

Stage 1: casing machined, bigger bearings fitted, rebuilt gearbox and rebuild standard limited slip diff £550+vat

Stage 2: as above but replacing std diff with Quaiffe ATB £1000+vat

Stage 3: as above but with shot peaned gear kit £1200+vat

depends what company it is doing the work, there is no set stage 1 2 or 3, same with cylinder heads, people say they have a stage 280398 cylinder head, means nothing unless you know who dod the work.

My mates just bought a Stage2 one for his RS Turbo.. Payed £1000 :|

Notice much difference power wise? Like in a straight line.

the escort rst has a diff in as standard, a stage 2 gearbox is usually a box with bigger bearings in it and a quaiffe ATB diff in place of the standard item. a stg 1 box on any tuned rst is a deffo must!

Its more down to traction than power, but they do make quite a big difference.

well on a standard corsa gearbox one wheel will spin (goes for path of least resistance) with a LSD it transfers the power evenly, better cornering etc

Just seen Paul_J for sale thread and was wondering if somebody could quickly explain an LSD box?

What they do compared to a normal box?

Ta
