Stop saying that!! you still have to run engines in no matter what. I've had my XE rebuilt twice now i know for a fact this needs to be done. If ithas a fresh bottom end it'll deffo need to be run in and also oil changed after a couple hundred miles to pick up swarf etc. Also piston rings will be new so revs will have to be varied to the rings expand and you dont get bore wash as you would get leaiving an egine to iddle for ages.

Even new modern engines should be run in why do you think when you pick up a new car they do an oil change after a few hundred miles? The extent of running in the less due to precision engineering but it still has to be done.

The longer you spend running an engine in the longer its going to last.

the only thing in an engine that needs run in is piston rings.

fad TBH mate you dont run modern car engines in, on vw longlife servicing you cna do 18k before it needs a service

with older rebuilt engines running in in vital, but not on new cars

Just been to see it; engine in bits, such a mess
Supposed to be presenting a research report on dermatology to a room full of expert folk this afternoon too :(
Anyway; Given them the go ahead for work, quoted quite reasonably to get it all fixed including the recovery etc... Should get it back early next week...

New valves etc mean it will need run in for a while?

I had this on my Corsa.. but it wasnt a Snap it my mates shoddy mechanics, Bottom bolt that holds the bottom pulley for the Alternator belt slipped out, followed by the bottom pulley for the belt and away she went....

5 bent valves later and a full rebuild she was running Fine....

The Cam belt on my Clio Cup snapped after 32k whilst having a new power steering pump fitted by Renault, fucking muppets.

I snapped a belt on a c20ne... replaced the belt timed the bugger up and drove off

Usually doesnt matter what speed the engines doing, once the belts let gom you can kiss the majority of your valves good bye :(.

Cambelt snapped after 25k on my old Corsa Sport. 15 bent valves and lots of other damage(the missus turned it over after it cut out!!). Cost me £700 to repair at the time, was never the same again though, ended up getting an x16xe put in a year later.

Yeah I suppose it depends on the extent of the damage, but like you say if the valve stem seals etc needed replacing you might as well get a new engine and put all new parts on it.

My mechanic recently had in a 1.6 Astra with timing belt failure, all the valaves were trumpet shaped, but that was it, replaced the valaves, timing belt, water pump had the head cleaned out and the car was running again :)

Favourable answers to all the above questions, but with my luck will be :(

Deffo. considering new engine rather than a rebuild/repair though... the piston rings and valve stem seals were fooked anyway...

might be lucky, were the revs high when it snapped? did you try and turn it over after it concked out? how quick on the clutch were you after it stopped? if the answer is good to these then you might be lucky in the pistons missing the valves etc

This is my worst fear with any car :(

Sorry to hear the bad news mate :(

Before you pay out hundreds on repairs I would consider just going and finding a new C/X16XE and swapping your Mantzel and Unichip over.

Would probably be cheaper mate.
