quote: Stop saying that!! you still have to run engines in no matter what. I've had my XE rebuilt twice now i know for a fact this needs to be done. If ithas a fresh bottom end it'll deffo need to be run in and also oil changed after a couple hundred miles to pick up swarf etc. Also piston rings will be new so revs will have to be varied to the rings expand and you dont get bore wash as you would get leaiving an egine to iddle for ages. Even new modern engines should be run in why do you think when you pick up a new car they do an oil change after a few hundred miles? The extent of running in the less due to precision engineering but it still has to be done. The longer you spend running an engine in the longer its going to last.

Don't need to run engines in anymore... You just need to go easy because it will have a new head gasket which will need to be re-torqued after 500 miles.

Usually doesnt matter what speed the engines doing, once the belts let gom you can kiss the majority of your valves good bye :(.

Cambelt snapped after 25k on my old Corsa Sport. 15 bent valves and lots of other damage(the missus turned it over after it cut out!!). Cost me £700 to repair at the time, was never the same again though, ended up getting an x16xe put in a year later.

Yeah I suppose it depends on the extent of the damage, but like you say if the valve stem seals etc needed replacing you might as well get a new engine and put all new parts on it.

My mechanic recently had in a 1.6 Astra with timing belt failure, all the valaves were trumpet shaped, but that was it, replaced the valaves, timing belt, water pump had the head cleaned out and the car was running again :)

Favourable answers to all the above questions, but with my luck will be :(

might be lucky, were the revs high when it snapped? did you try and turn it over after it concked out? how quick on the clutch were you after it stopped? if the answer is good to these then you might be lucky in the pistons missing the valves etc

Before you pay out hundreds on repairs I would consider just going and finding a new C/X16XE and swapping your Mantzel and Unichip over.
