well my 106 gti had the airbag light flashing constantly (was a common fault just a dirty sensor under the seat) and it passed the mot twice at two seperate garages | |

no, it only fails if the airbag light is on, its not compulsory to have an airbag, think about small cheap cars like kias and sports cars like tvrs and caterhams, they dont have airbags but need an MoT | |

I believe it does fail an mot if there is no Airbag fitted in a car after a certain date.. | |

Does your car fail the MOT if you remove it and put a non-airbag steering wheel, out of interest? | |

Airbags are expensive mate, would leave if it, if its not causing any problem | |

On my Astra I have a leather steering wheel with an airbag (like on the Corsa GSi for example, not the Sport shape airbag wheel). |
