woohoo the f**ked bearing in the alterantor has wrecked the whole damn thing now i have to strip out the alternator and find £60 for 55amp or £80 for a 70amp (my staff discount) for new ones from my work as i am skint and still paying off my S.K.I. Loan (SKI = spending kids inheritance) the nbormally bubbly lil corsa will sit in my garage till hopefully i get paid and get a F**king alternator minus a F**ked bearing!!!

lmao i've actually found out what it was now and i got told off three mechanics three different things and it was none of them, 1 mechanic said it was the tappets, another said the heads knackered and the other said it was the big ends and all the time it was a F**ked bearing in the alternator!

:D

thanks for the input tho guys it will help me in the long run if any of those problems do show up

oh and Ian Grieves in Stirling want £1146 for a 1.4 16v engine brand spanking new
dunno if thats just the engine itself when i worked at Morrisons in Falkirk they only quoted for the engine the likes of your wiring loom and ecu were extra

i got quoted £2500 for my mate Macd's white Astra Sport and thats just a 1.8 16v a 2.0 16v engine transplant to a corsa is classed as a major modification and the insurance company's will laugh all the way to the bank with your quotes plus i've got 6 points on my license cos of a moment of stupidity (i'm full of them  ) when i took a car i had out and got caught driving and got hammered for no license tax or mot  :(

Anyone know of any problems that the 1.4 8v's are prone to? My cars done 130,000miles ran like a sweetie when i got it done an oil change and i'm just gettin round to doing a timing belt it started making a tapping noise after bootin it on the motorway (put it down to the tappets) then when me and the girlfriend met up with a couple of friends tonite i booted the car really hard to keep up with my mates Rover 218Vi and the engine just died, we had to push it to get started, i've had a few probs starting it checked the battery it's fine the alternator has a bad bearing but it's chargin the battery ok, we cant figure what the problem is any of you's got a clue what could be wrong??? :( :boggle:
