yeah the water pump DOES run off the cam belt according to haynes. you were right Samuel.

Well it does in my engine anyway, and I'm pretty sure it does in all other engines too. It's just stuff like PAS, A/C, etc. that run off a different belt (the auxillary or 'fan' belt).

yesh, But unlike most othe vauxhall engines, i dont think the X16XE has the cambelt built into the water pump. Thats a sperate system i heard?

I changed mine about 4k miles ago, along with the water pump, and pre-tensioner.

I advise you change the above when you do your cam belt, as well as changing the rollers (as your engine is 16v).

Yesh i believe i also need to change my cam belt since im nearing 40k miles.

My Astra is not performing as well as it should, because it needs a service, and a decent exhaust system.

Hopefully it will be getting serviced this weekend. I have a K&N panel filter on the way, all I need to do is buy some performance plugs like NGK or something, and the usual oil and oil/pollen/fuel filters.

I know that if a corsa went past me making that sound, i would think, 'what a cnut'

People keep looking at me every time I floor it in the Astra. They are thinking one of the following:

  • Wow, his car sounds like a Scooby!
  • Wow, his car sounds Patrick!
  • Bloody young whippersnapper! Why in my day...

I suspect they are thinking either the 2nd or 3rd comment, depending on the person's age...

This morning a CTR was on the bridge going into welwyn, so i waited behind until there was enough room and floored it and let the engine do the talking ;) He gave me a grin at the traffic lights at the bottom too. He probably thought 'what a tosser'.
