Cards other than from your mainstream places such as Barclaycard usually have very high scoring rates with regards to your credit history so only the higher earners etc get them. I've tried and failed in the past but got one from the Halifax with no problem and that was interest free for a year.

Maybe you haven't got yourself enough debt recently. The card companys like you to be in debt because it's the way they make money...

Might be because you have enough credit available already, lower the balances on the other cards or cancel them and try again.

quote: I had £19k in credit-limit, across 3 cards, and still got approved for a 4th and another £4,500 limit......I'd imagine there're are quite a few factors involved, existing credit MAY be one but I doubt it's a major one.

quote: Egg are bollocks to be honest. I had a credit card with them (£1000 limit - no other credit at all except a contract phone) always fully paid off with hardly anything on it and had around £650 a month in income i could throw away and they still declined me for a £5000 loan . The reason they declined me was because i never borrowed that much money in the past, nothing to do with my credit score. Oh wow, because i dont have 5 million pounds of debt like everyone else they wouldnt give me a loan. [Edited on 16-10-2006 by DarkBahamut]

It could be because you have so much credit available already. Just because you dont owe anything doesnt mean companies will keep throwing cards at you, otherwise people could get like 10 or 15 cards then run them up. If you've got 12k in limits on your cards already then i'd say thats probabaly your reason.
