Yeah if you pass it goes up & if you fail it goes down

I noticed Halifax are doing 0%, don't you have to be a Halifax customer though?

Cards other than from your mainstream places such as Barclaycard usually have very high scoring rates with regards to your credit history so only the higher earners etc get them. I've tried and failed in the past but got one from the Halifax with no problem and that was interest free for a year.

It can also affect your credit score for each declined application so dont go and do too many.

Might be because you have enough credit available already, lower the balances on the other cards or cancel them and try again.

I've cancelled 2 of them (y)

Maybe you haven't got yourself enough debt recently. The card companys like you to be in debt because it's the way they make money...

Just because you dont owe anything doesnt mean companies will keep throwing cards at you, otherwise people could get like 10 or 15 cards then run them up. If you've got 12k in limits on your cards already then i'd say thats probabaly your reason.

I had £19k in credit-limit, across 3 cards, and still got approved for a 4th and another £4,500 limit......I'd imagine there're are quite a few factors involved, existing credit MAY be one but I doubt it's a major one.

Egg are bollocks to be honest. I had a credit card with them (£1000 limit - no other credit at all except a contract phone) always fully paid off with hardly anything on it and had around £650 a month in income i could throw away and they still declined me for a £5000 loan . The reason they declined me was because i never borrowed that much money in the past, nothing to do with my credit score.

Oh wow, because i dont have 5 million pounds of debt like everyone else they wouldnt give me a loan.

On the electoral role yeah

Had loans in the past, had a contract phone for about 4 years. Never really missed a payment, might've forgotten ato pay my credit card once or twice but its always been payed the following month without fail. I've never had anything serious IE letters to say I owe money etc

Household is fine, all my family have good credit

Need a fairly hefty limit to start with so I might cancel the card with the 5.5K limit (Capital One are a pain anyway!)

Anyone know how soon this type of thing would update? Ie from cancelling one to being allowed to open another?

New question:

Applied for the GE capital one.....declined

Applied for a Marks & Spencer &more card....declined

:|

Really odd :boggle: I have a good credit history, never been refused anything before. Infact, just recently my other card limits have been increased to £6750 on one & £5500 on the other! Only thing I owe on them is about £35 from when I filled the car up with fuel about 2 weeks ago

Been on to experian website & payed the £2 to get my credit file sent out but that takes up to 7 days to come according to the website. Really pissed off & confused :(

I rang my bank earlier & they said they couldn't understand why they would say no, kind of just confirmed what I was thinking

Im aware that failing a credit check has a negative effect on your credit score so Im a bit worried about applying for any more!

Im getting the card to make a rather large purchase & I really don't want to have to pay interest on it for the first few months untill I've payed it off!

GE & M&S were doing 12 months 0% on purchases. Sainsburys are doing 10 months which would be fine

Does anybody on here work with credit? Could there be a reason why someone with a good credit history might not be accepted for a card?

My only thought is that my total limit within the credit industry is now quite high since they bumped my limits up so much on t'other cards. Do people have a limit in totoal across all differant compaines?
