also if you are running WEP/MAC filtering, turn it all off and see if it works then.

make sure its connecting to the correct router/AP, you'd be supprised how many wireless fields invade each other.

d) any third party app that may stop it getting an address such as a firewall?

169 address is the address you get when you cannot get a DHCP address.

righht...

a) if you are using MAC address security are you sure you have added the correct MAC address to the router (as your laptop may have both a wired and wireless network connection). Run a ipconfig/all from the command line and make sure you have entered the right one.

b) are you using any sort of Wireless authenication/encryption such as WPA/WEP? If so then make sure you have the right keys/passphrases entered on the laptop.

c)Was ther any Netgear software to install with your card? (not the drivers). I've found that if you are not using XP (which seems to have built in wireless software) then you need to use some third party app normally supplied with the software.

Once you have finished setting up the wireless network have you tried going back into the home networking wizard to make sure its set to use DHCP ect, cos it may have been set up differently before
