better explenaton

Astra1.4i 1994 8v:

all this can happon randomly

Turn on car one time and it will start and straight away after that cut out, leave it for a wile and then start it again and the the car will start but seems very slugish, but will eventualy pics up, also once the car is on the revs vary from 1,100 to 800 keep changeing at the same time the engine management light goes on and off ... once driving at speed the car drives ok allthough the light does still come on and off

A friend of mine has an Astra MK3 with a 1.4 8v engine.

The Engine management light has been coming on ever since he had it, and it revs itself slightly whilst idling (to about 1,500Rpm tops) Which made me think its the ICV.

But more recently the car has been cutting out just after its been started, and its been taking a while to start again after its cut out.

Does anyone know what this might be? I've suggested maybe buying a new ICV, even if this aint the problem it'll still be a new ICV and might stop the car having a fault with the ICV in the future.

I also thought Air mass sensor, but i'm not sure.

Cheers
