i think generally they are noisey engines

the later X16 XE's has a metal inlet manifold and this apparnetly made them quieter, it could be this also could be the bottom end but you wanna hope not, my C16XE GSI makes allot of noise but if ya keep the oil topped up you wont have a problem

know the feeling... i think its the "flaps" inside the original inlet manifold, wich are meant to make better flow*torque* or something.
it just sounds like diesel...

Will be noisey at first for about 20 secs any longer than that and you have probally got a noisey hydrolic lifter(s)

my gsi pre ecotec has always sounded tappety just had re build with new followers, seals etc and it still sounds like a diesel is it to do with there plastic inlet man or what as the machanic says it sounds like its coming from there i thought ticking injectors but im sure they dont tick is this a charactoristic of the engine as it seems to die out when warm. :boggle:
