The car's a 2000 V-reg 1.4 sport.

Try this. Last night i was taking off my old side repeaters, they were bodged on with silicone to make them hold. When i got the driver side off, it left loads of stuck on silicone, tbh it was instant gasket. Anyway, i went to answer the phone and my mate used white spirit to try removing the sticky stuff and naturally the hole was exposed where the repeater should be.

Do you think by any chance that it may just be a pool of white spirit thats run down through the car and picked some shit up along the way?? The puddle on the floor does have bits in it and it wasn't exactly standing fluid, more just a film on the floor.??

I bet it is D'OH D'OH D'OH!!!!!

Sump gasket, oil pump gasket.

What year is the car and what engine? Early 1.4 16v engines had a problem with paper gaskets. Mine went not long after i got it, i replaced it, and the new part was metal.

Possibility, plus, fucker of a job :(

Ok, doubt me, but I've seen screwdrivers go through a sump that has become almost paper thin due to corrosion.

Anyway, heres the pics. Bit difficult to tell but it looks certainly like oil, and it seems to be centred around the sump bolt to the left, could possibly leaking from there? Its also possible it could be the gasket leaking from that side, but again its hard to tell.

Yes i have power steering and i have noticed that the air con causes a bit of a smell after its been turned off.

Will takie it into my uncles garage to be safe. So far it could be:

Coolant.
Power steering fluid
Oil filter
sump gasket
air con unit (never done it before)
Water pump.

Its oily, thats all i know but i don't know where its coming from.

Pics on the way of the oily bit underneath the car as soon as Cobra148 hosts them.

Car hasn't been overheating or running hot. Just been serviced last week or two and the puddle on the floor has only been there since monday night earliest.

All i know is that the stuff on the floor smelt different to the oil i wiped off the dipstick when i checked the oil level which is slightly high.

FFS, look at it and see if its oil!!!! How simple is that!?

Porus sump? WTF? Dodgy sump or oil pump gasket maybe......

 yeah, ok, it has other liquid componts, but the gb on the vauxhalls are pretty strong, you shouldn't ever really need to worry about that.

Brake fluid, doubtfull this will be a problem unless he's been tampering with the pipework and burst it.

Water for the washers, well, no worries there then.

thats funny

mine has
coolant
oil
gearbox oil
brake fluid
and water for the washers!

if its coolant leaking then it'l obviously dry up so you wont get the patch on the drive

mine leaks oil where the dipstick tube enters the sump

Well, theres only 2 major liquids in the car.

Coolent and oil.

Has the engine been running hot recently? Has the coolent level dropped? If so, its coolent and u may have a small leak.

OR, if its coming from around the sump, on the cam belt side, check, t may be the water pump which has packed up.

Otherwise, it must be oil. As for smaller engiens going porous, i've not heard of it yet, only the 20XE and LETs really had that problem.

Corsas are notorious for rotting sumps, they tend to become porous and oil can seep through eventually. Not saying that this is the problem in your case but you could try prodding the sump with a screwdriver.
Have a container underneath just in case. If it is the sump, the screwdriver blade could well go right through it and oil will piss out.

Can't see any, all seems pretty clean around the engine, just usual dirt. Like i said, there is residue that is very slowly forming drips on the bottom of the engine. I don't know what bit its on, its a domed area to the left of the sump as i look from the back of the engine.

any oil running down the block?

Rainesie

Its not the oil filter and its's not the sump but there is residue around the bottom of the engine and i've checked the oil level and it does seem slightly high.

The car had a service about two weeks ago and the puddle has only just happened since monday night when i last used the car. Its only about 6" diameter and not pooling, just a layer on the floor. There's no oil splashed around the engine and couldn't see any running down the block.

Should it be a concern or just see if it happens some more.
