only trouble is using mole grips if it goes down low enough,if the grips damage the piston it'll cause it to leek espec on 60mm but the bump stops may save it other wise you need a deep reach ring spanner

you use a ring spanner on the nut and an allen key socket on the top of the piston and turn opposite directions.

i found out what it was. the spring wasnt sitting properly in the suspension arm. took it apart again and aligned it properly. sorted!!

erm im not sure why. i had no funny noises.

maybe its just the new springs creeking or maybe u tightend up the dampner too much or sumic :boggle:


its prob coz ur springs are new, should be ok after couple of hundred miles i would have thought.

but just to be safe u could check that all the nuts and bolts u undid are all tight.

cheers geeza. when you put it back did you have to put it back in any certain way cos i put it back on then went for a drive and when i went over a speed bump it made some weird noise.

oh yea i ad that problem...

i just used a mole grip and held the piston rod (i gripped it right at the top of the piston) and used a spanner to turn the top nut.

worked really easy and luckerly/surprisingly didnt damage/scratch the piston rod.

how do you get the top nut off cos the piston rod keeps spinning round as i turn the top nut.

u need to buy some spring compressers (about£20)...

1.)undo the 2 bolts holding the bottom of the front suspension (which are by the breaks)

2.)undo the the 2 nuts at the top of the suspension (located on the struts in the engine bay)

3.)remove the suspension.

4.)use spring compressers to compress the spring so that it is slack inside the dampner.

5.)undo the top nut of the dampner.

6.)remove spring.

7.)put spring compressers on new springs.

8.)refit doing the reverse to the the above.

How do i change the springs i got a 1.2 8v done the back just gotta change the front.
