the hot air is to help the engine warm up quicker so it just takes a little longer for ur engine to warm up with the cone on. if you look at the standard air box you can see the valve at the front were the original air pipe feed should be. its like a door that opens and closes. the read wire is the sensor for his. just secure the read wire somewhere in the engine it is not needed and just leave the pipe from the exhaust section on put redirect it away from the cone. this will reduce the amount of hot air that goes into the cone hence less flat spots but more importantly better sound

with the cone it doesnt need the hot air from exhaust ?

to let hot air in. on your standard airbox there is a valve so that when the engine is cold it uses the hot air form the exhaust section (the pipe you are on about) to allow the engine to warm up quicker. i just redirected the pipe away from the cone so no hot air is directed to the cone from this pipe. hope that helps

so is the main purpose of this pipe to let hot air out or cold air in?

yeah, that would be a good idea.
your engine loves cold air, so gettin as much in as possible is good for it.

can somebody help me? ive got an l-reg1.2 8v - ive fitted the cone with the mount and is connected up to where the original box was , but now i have a spare pipe coming from the front of the main engine block (please excuse technical terms) that originally went to the botom of the air box - what should i do with this pipe? should i connect this to the front grill to let air in or redirect it towards the cone ? :o:o
