hey all!

i've just made my self a false floor. i have sound deadend the boot floor with dynamat. the spare wheel's out too.

i have an idea,
would wadding help at all? wadding is the stuff you find inside sub boxes or in teddys bears etc. (can be found at fabric shops)

im thinking of puttin sh!t loads of wadding where there are gaps (inside of boot, not in actual tailgate), ie between the wheel well and the underside of the false floor, any panels that are touching each other etc...

i'm thinking of doing this purley because i can get loads for next to nothing.

my theory is that....
when a sound wave hits something solid ie wood
some of it will bounce and some of it will absorb.
when the sound wave absorbs and goes through,
instead of bouncing in between the wood and another panel
it should be dampened by the wadding.

does this make sense?

i'm gonna give it a try anyhow and see how i get on.

if anyone's already tried it then please let me know. ;)

on my corsa c, i got 2 12" subs in the back - Had a lot of rattling - A few places that i foamed up are: the Boot panel on the inside, the boot Door CATCH!! (yep it rattles like a bugger),
the number plate - (stuck a length of foam in there) and the part of the back bumper where it meets the petrol tank on the underside.. also the little bolt cover on the back wiper.. definitley took my rattle down a huge amount.. still a little rattle tho, not sure where, cause i've tightened or foamed everything in the back end of the car..

I bought a roll of 'brown bread' sound deadening if you have a star shaped screwdriver set take off the panel on your boot on the inside . then get as much sound deadening put it there ! its simple physics if you have a large area and u make a noise in it it well echo or try to escape somewhere that somewhere is into the panels of your car ie backof the boot and your number plate recess and upto your GSI spolier! just pack brown bread along there ! I also did the inside of my std front door pod as thay rattled too! not anymore tho!!!

Mine was that and those rubbery/plastic plug things. Removed the plastic bolt thingy and spare wheel, glued down the plugs and have two layers of dynamat over them now...

spare wheel well rattle, TOMAS, is usually down to the thingy which holds the spare down. Ive not got one, so dont have that problem :)

Concentrate on the spare wheel well, thats a big culprit in mine and believe it or not the scuttle pannel on the front windscreen. Best thing is remove anything that isnt needed, secondly pad things that are touching each other...

When he says £20 a roll that only means a small roll, for example you will need 3 rolls to do the boot floor and nowt else!!!!!

So it is expensive but it is worth it!!!!!

If you dont wanna spend that kinda money, like me, i stripped all panels tighten any bolts and things up(surprising how many rattle will go) then apply Aquaseal Flashing tape to everywhere and then get some nice thick dense foam and cram it and stick to surface and hole you can!!!!!!

But no matter how much you do you will always have some rattles!!!!!!

dynamat extreme can be got for £20 per roll, u may get it cheaper if you do as i said before. Flashing tape is like dynamat extreme, only no-where near as effective.

how much would this dynamat set me back? and what is that flashing tape do they use it in the building industry?

If you're gonna be spending a lot of money on dynamat, you'd be best off going directly to BBG who bring the stuff into the country, as they may offer you a good deal. Dont have any contact details for them though im afraid.

Flashing tape from B&Q, or dynamat from halfords if u got the money.

For the number plate, i stuck a sheet of foam behind mine, and the gsi spoiler i used expansion foam and lots of PTFE tape on the screws.

where can i get the stuff to sound proof it, does anyone know?

Richie

The main culprits are all the panels, the GSI spoiler (if you have it) and definatly the feking number plate.
